Regardless of what anyone will say to you Tortoises do make very good pets, provided they are given the correct enviroment (not all Tortoises should be kept the same way!) They will reward you with many many years of companionship.
Our business was founded on these animals when we acquired two Hermann's tortoises back in 2004. We were supplied with the animals and of course the A10 paperwork and also a care sheet. This care sheet broke all the rules, after reading this care sheet properly over the next few days we decided to go down a different route THE TORTOISE TRUST. We enroled on an online course which lasted for 14 weeks and learned many things about these creatures, after which we decided to pass this information on to other keepers. The care sheet in question was then rewritten and passed on to the company which supplied us the Tortoises.
On visiting our shop leave some time aside to spend with us as we would like to think that you are fully aware of exactly what you will be taking on and therefore know exactly what to do.
This page is dedicated to Kojak, my very first Tortoise. Kojak was a Greek spur thigh and was bought for me by my grandfather back in the early seventies. I still remember going into the pet shop and asking for a pet tortoise, the lady in the shop walked to the rear of the shop and pulled out a banana box from under a shelf, this box was full of Tortoises there must have been around 20.
Kojak was then put into a brown paper bag and given to me, I took him home and put him in the garden. I lost count of the times our next door neighbours came round with him, he used to burrow under the fence and end up in their vegetable patch. When my dad's job meant we had to move many miles away to a house with a very small garden we decided to leave him with a friend, I got regular letters from my friend for years later each one saying JAKKO OK. (he was never any good at spelling)
